New Year's Laugh or Memory

I was wondering in all your New Year's eve hapenings, what stands out in you mind the most?
One come to mind, in 1969 we were over to my sister-in-laws playing cards. We had a little too much to drink, when we were getting ready to go home, my husband went out to clean snow off the car. We went to the window to watch him, he was on the passenger side, standing up on the snow bank, all of a sudden he slipped and slid all the way under the car. We could not help him because we were laughing so hard, he did not get hurt. So come on let us hear about yours, so we can laugh.

  1. My Mother and I were talking about this yesterday, why is it, we sometimes laugh when we see someone falling or getting hurt? I remember well the time we were putting false beams in the living room ceiling. Abe was up on a ladder, I was standing at the other end, on a chair, trying to hold it in place with a broom handle, remember I'm short, he was on the only ladder we had, and about that time, his end came down and knocked him on the head, I know he must have seen stars, and I was trying to keep from laughing and silently praying for God to please not let me bust out laughing out loud. I think we both got to laughing and had to lay the beam down for a while and start all over. We did get them up. Then several neighbors saw them and they all followed suit, we finally removed them after a few years. Let's just say, we've lived here since 1962, we've had walls up and down, beams up and down, and the neighbors have all joked about how Abe was constantly moving things in the backyard. Which he did. One neighbor said I think he's moved every inch of dirt back there at least one time and probably more. But he no longer can do that, so what's there pretty much stays there unless we can afford to hire someone to do it. Again, Happy New Year.

  5. This was not funny, but a memorable moment. It was probably sometime in the 80s--I don't recall. We were celebrating New Year's Eve at my parents house in East Tennessee. The weather was unseasonably warm. For some reason my wife at the time and I went way back out into the darkness of my parents' very large back yard to sit in the grass. At some moment as midnight approached, a very strong and warm wind swept over us. I recall feeling a sense of wonderment and exhileration. That's the only thing I remember about that night.

  6. Poor Him.

I remember, when I was a kid, my younger brother was laughed at by all of us. He was angry, was walking fast to show how much he disliked an incident. Walking fast, he slept from the floor mat and was flat on ground :) He was not hurt :) He was just 4-5 years old at that time.

  9. It doesn't take time for emotions to change. We are capable of smiling through our tears. We laugh at people who fall down, because we know they will get up.

  10. I am from India and a hindu by religion but Christmas tree and new year eve makes me equally happy as I get during Diwali and Holi. So one evening my husband brought me a small Christmas tree and he was dressed as Santa. I had tears in my eyes because I would also like to see Santa in person one day as every kid wants. So with all this emotion I ran towards my husband and the next place I found myself was under the table. I slept, fell down and slipped under the table. My husband and I couldn't stop laughing because of the different colors of emotions he saw on my face. He still makes fun of my face with all the emotions I had. :P
